My name is Erica T. Garcia. I graduated from Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi with a Ph.D. in Counselor Education in 2015. I am a proud member of the Fighting Texas Aggie Class of 2000 and graduated with my Masters in Counseling with special emphases in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi in 2010.
I am currently employed with Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas as a Behavioral Health Counselor. The cities in which I provide services are Ingleside, Rockport, Sinton, Taft, and the Calallen area of Corpus Christi. From 2014 to 2017, I worked for Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi as a Professional Assistant Professor of Social Science in the First-Year Learning Communities program. I taught a total of 10 sections of seminar across the fall and spring semesters and had the ability to teach a new seminar class (UCCP 1100: Career and Academic Planning) online. Previously, I worked at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in Career Services as a Career Advisor (2013-2014). Being in this position gave me the opportunity to work with students in a higher education setting to further their career development. I enjoy working in the Texas A&M System and have found my journey from Aggieland to the Island and Javelina Nation an exciting one.
Prior to being at TAMUK, I worked at Behavioral Health Center of Nueces County, formerly MHMR of Nueces County. I began my work as a service coordinator in IDD Services in June 2012. This position gave me the opportunity to work with individuals who have diagnoses of intellectual and developmental disabilities. Working with this population proved to be rewarding and challenging as the services in place for this population are somewhat limited; however, I have learned much from the clients I encountered. I was employed at St. Anthony Catholic Church as the administrative assistant to the Pastor, with Fr. Anthony Blount, SOLT, and Fr. Dennis Walsh, SOLT, from 2006 to 2012. I enjoyed my time working in this ministry and helping bring new programs into fruition at the parish.
I hold a license as a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. In the future I would like to pursue my certification as an LPC Supervisor so that I can continue to work with budding counselors.
